A Letter to Our Child, from Two Adoptive Mothers

To Our Kiddo:

We’re S and A. We’re two people who have so much love in our hearts, and we want to share it by welcoming you into our home, where we’re busy preparing for your arrival. We’ve never been mothers before, only aunties, so we’re really excited to be taking classes on how to be good parents for you, how to truly listen to you when you get frustrated, how to comfort you when you’re sad, and how to celebrate your awesomeness every day. We’re human, so we’re bound to make mistakes, but we promise to do our very best, and we want you to let us know what you need every step of the way.

In addition to the lessons we’re learning in parent school, we’re doing some other fun things to get ready for you! We’re decorating your room with lots of colors, filling your library with lots of books, and stuffing your toy chest with lots of toys. Most importantly, we’re making sure our whole house is warm and cozy and overflowing with love, so that you can truly be yourself here.

It may not be easy to start living in a new place with new people, so we want you to know that in this house, you’re allowed to feel and talk about anything you need to. We’ll do everything we can to make you feel supported and loved. No matter what happens, we’re here for you.

As we’re finishing up our parenting lessons and putting fresh sheets on your bed, we are getting so excited to meet you and learn more about you! Know that you’re on our minds and in our hearts already.

Love,
S + A
